My work with telematic art and production has lead me to consider venue, interface, and instrument nearly synonymous. Internet of Strings is an exploration of that ambiguity. Electric guitars are transformed into sites for networked performance via web technology, electronics, and acoustic extensions.
The guitar shown here is extended by warped bars of steel mounted over the strings and pickups. The steel delivers granular effected samples of the 60s theater classic Paradise Now from a Raspberry Pi, the Pi networked to a website visited by an online audience. The audience interacts with the guitar through Paradise Now video clips on the site, and receives the resulting experimental sound track as a result.
